Professors Maryam Tahmasebi and Eissa Hashemi

Professors Maryam Tahmasebi and Eissa Hashemi and their teenaged son have been held in an ICE prison since April 2026. The family had been lawfully living in California for over a decade as green card holders when they were targeted by the Trump administration not because of something they said or did but because Eissa’s mother was a student negotiator during the Tehran Hostage Crisis of 1979. This is an unprecedented case of bloodline punishment which goes against everything America stands for.

The law says that a minor held in ICE custody should be released within 20 days. And yet, Professor Maryam and Eissa’s teenaged son has now been detained for six months.
