Marwan has lived in Dallas for more than three decades and dedicated his life to service. On September 22, 2025, shortly after dropping his teenage son off at school, he was followed by ICE agents, detained, and taken to an immigration detention facility four hours away from the community where he has lived with his family for most of his life.
That same day, USCIS denied Marwan’s green card application. The government is accusing Marwan of providing “material support” to the Holy Land Foundation (HLF) because he volunteered and helped fundraise for the charity between 1994 and 2001. Pay close attention to the dates. During the time Marwan was a volunteer (which included handling donations for the zakat committee, ordering pizza, and hiring a clown to entertain children while their parents attended HLF fundraisers), the HLF was the United States’ largest Muslim charity and a legally recognized 501(c)(3). Hundreds of thousands of Muslims donated to and volunteered for HLF during the same period.
For nearly forty years, the government took no action against Marwan. Yet, in September 2025, invoking the language of terrorism, it has chosen to unleash its full power on a family man and pillar of his community—someone best known for founding one of Dallas’s largest Boy Scout troops, delivering hot meals during Texas’s winter freezes, and helping hurricane victims.
The injustice of targeting a man who has done everything by the book—entered lawfully, served meaningfully, and cared deeply—is too great to overlook. Project TAHA, in partnership with the Muslim Legal Fund of America and coalition attorneys, is committed to representing Amo Marwan in his fight for freedom.
