We are living in unprecedented times. Students are being abducted off the streets for peacefully protesting. People who’ve lived here for decades and have no criminal record are being abducted by masked men at gunpoint and disappeared into immigration detention. Powerful institutions including ivy league colleges and elite law firms are bowing to a tyrannical administration.
Since October 2023, Project TAHA has been at the forefront of the fight for our civil liberties. At the start of the genocide in Gaza, Project TAHA’s founder and human rights lawyer MARIA A. KARI filed lawsuits that helped evacuate more than 80 Americans trapped in Gaza to safety. And, under the current administration, Project TAHA, in partnership with leading civil rights organizations, has taken on some of the most critical, high-profile cases in the country.
Today, Project TAHA represents – entirely free of charge – our country’s most oppressed yet resilient individuals including DR. AAFIA SIDDIQUI in her fight for freedom from an unjust 86-year sentence, MAHMOUD KHALIL and other students challenging Columbia University and the Trump administration’s assault on free speech, and community members like MARWAN MAROUF and YAAKUB IRA, who face deportation despite having committed no crime and having contributed immensely to their Texas communities. And, on October 7, 2025, Project TAHA in partnership with the National Lawyers Guild, filed an unprecedented 100-page petition with the Inter-American Commission for Human Rights accusing the United States of complicity in the genocide of the Palestinian people.
Project TAHA does not make the client bear the cost of lawyering but litigation and advocacy is expensive. Many of us care deeply about the injustices we see in the world and wonder how we can make a difference. One of the most powerful ways you can help is by becoming a recurring donor to Project TAHA, ensuring that this local pro bono legal nonprofit can continue to fight the machinery of tyranny and oppression.
Project TAHA is a nonprofit corporation registered in Texas, USA.
